Normal role description: | Via its zinc finger domain, Kaiso binds DNA and functions as both a repressor and activator of transcription. Kaiso recognizes methylated CpG dinucleotides as well as a sequence-specific site (TCCTGCNA). As such, ultimate role in oncogenesis will depend on which genes are upregulated or suppressed. However, empirically, Kaiso has been demonstrated to block transcription of TSP and upregulation of Kaiso appears to promote oncogenesis. |
