Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: MLL5
Gene Name: MLL5
Protein Full Name: Histone-lysine N-methyltransferase MLL5

Mass (Da): 204965
Number AA: 1858
UniProt ID: Q8IZD2
Locus ID: 55904
COSMIC ID: MLL5
Gene location on chromosome: 7q22.1
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR

Number of cancer specimens: 20363
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.41
Normal role description: MLL5 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically mono- and dimethylates histone H3 (Lys-4). Involved in cell cycle regulation. Suppresses expression of S-phase genes. Knockdown was shown to induce cell cycle arrest in G1 and G2/M phase cells and overexpression inhibits cell cycle progression.
