Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: DOCK4
Gene Name: DOCK4
Protein Full Name: Dedicator of cytokinesis protein 4
Alias: Dedicator of cytokinesis 4; FLJ34238; KIAA0716
Mass (Da): 225148
Number AA: 1966
UniProt ID: Q8N1I0
Locus ID: 9732
COSMIC ID: DOCK4
Gene location on chromosome: 7q31.1
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19560
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.8
General distribution of mutations: Multi-site
Location of most mutations: Point mutations are spread out in middle two fifths of the protein with no recorded insertions and deletions.
Normal role description: Activates Rap1. Involved in regulation of adherens junction between cells. Plays a role in cell migration. Injection of wild-type protein suppresses tumour invasion in osteosarcoma mouse cell lines while it is not the case with the Leu-1718 variant. Knockout studies have demonstrated increased propensity for tumour invasion indicating its potential role as a TSP.
