Normal role description: NUP133 is component of the nuclear pore complex which regulates the import and export of macromolecules between the cytoplasm and nucleus. More specifically, NUP133 is a component of the NUP160 subcomplex which may have a role in mRNA export from the nucleus. Several mutations of NUP133 have been detected in cancers but their functional role has not been characterized. Due to NUP133's role in regulating mRNA export dysfunction in this gene may contribute to aberrant translation of nascent mRNA.
