Normal role description: PPM1E is a protein serine/threonine phosphatase. PPM1E substrates include calmodulin-dependent kinases and Rho GEF whereby PPM1E functions to inhibit their activty. PPM1E may have a role in regulating morphological changes in the cell through inhibition of actin stress fiber breakdown. Mis-sense mutations of PPM1E have been identified in various cancers but their functional effect has not been well characterized.
