Normal role description: | Secreted protein. ATP-independent serine protease, that binds to TGF beta family members and acts as a repressor of TGF beta signalling, to which its proteolytic activity is closely connected. HTRA1 inhibits the EGRF/AKT signalling and thereby promotes anoikis, a form of cell death induced by detachment from the ECM. Expression downregulated in many types of cancers. In ovarian and gastric tumors, LOH and low expression are associated with poor chemotherapy response. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | No mutations have been reported on the Atlas of Genetics in Oncology or the SANGER COSMIC database. |
