Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: DLX4
Gene Name: DLX4
Protein Full Name: Homeobox protein DLX-4
Alias: Beta protein 1;Homeobox protein DLX-7;Homeobox protein DLX-8
Mass (Da): 26263
Number AA: 240
UniProt ID: Q92988
Locus ID: 1748
COSMIC ID: DLX4
Gene location on chromosome: 17q21.33
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: GAIN
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.25
Normal role description: DLX4 plays a role in forebrain and cranicofacial development, cell survival and proliferation and reduced apoptosis. It has been found to positively regulate Bcl-2 expression, decrease caspase 7, 8 and 9 cleavage to develop resistance to apoptosis. It has also been found to increase expression of PARP and decrease expression of BRCA1. Dysregulation can lead to increased cell proliferation in cancers.
