Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Number AA: 325
UniProt ID: Q9BQ69
Locus ID: 28992
COSMIC ID: MACROD1
Gene location on chromosome: 11q13.1

Normal role description: MACROD1 has many roles in the cell. It is involved in deacetylation of O-acetyl-ADP ribose, co-activation of estrogen receptor and androgen receptor, recruitment and activation of PARP1 during radiation induced DNA damage and enhance TNFa induced NF-kb activation. It is found overexpressed in various cancers and associated with cancer progression. Overexpression in cancers that use ER or AR results in growth advantage for androgen and estrogen dependent prostate, breast and endometrial cancers.
