Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: Wnk3
Gene Name: WNK3
Protein Full Name: Serine/threonine-protein kinase WNK3
Alias: EC 2.7.11.1; KIAA1566; PRKWNK3; Protein kinase, lysine-deficient 3
Mass (Da): 191789
Number AA: 1743
UniProt ID: Q9BYP7
Locus ID: 65267
COSMIC ID: WNK3
Gene location on chromosome: Xp11.22
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 20000
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.43
Normal role description: WNK3 is a serine-threonine protein kinase that lack the catalytic lysine in subdomain II, and instead has a conserved lysine in subdomain I. It functions as a positive regulator of the transcellular Ca2+ transport pathway, and it plays a role in the increase of cell survival in a caspase-3-dependent pathway.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: 1/53 CNS-, and 2/114 kidney tumour samples were also mutated
