Normal role description: | SENP6 is a protease that deconjugates SUMO1/2/3 from targeted proteins. It is involved in chromosome alignment and spindle assembly, by regulating the kinetochore CENPH-CENPI-CENPK complex. It also desumoylates PML and CENPI, protecting them from degradation by the ubiquitin ligase RNF4, which targets polysumoylated proteins for proteasomal degradation; and also RPA1, thereby preventing RAD51-recruitment to the DNA damage foci to initiate DNA repair through homologous recombination. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Only 2 bladder cancer samples were included in Sanger COSMIC; 2/186 breast-, 1/145 lung-, and 1/59 ovarian samples were also mutated |
