Normal role description: Gene encodes for a subunit of IL23. The cytokine IL 23 is essential for differentiation of Th17 cells. Activates the JAK/STAT cascade. Promotes production of proinflammatory cytokines and memory effect of T cells. Increased number of SNPs in the IL23R gene in ovarian cancers. Upregulation of IL23A in various cancers. Promotes inflammation and angiogenesis in tumors and inhibits CD8+ T cell infiltration. However growth inhibiting effects have been observed in mouse models.
