Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: NLRC4
Gene Name: NLRC4
Protein Full Name: NLR family CARD domain-containing protein 4
Alias: CARD, LRR, and NACHT-containing protein;Caspase recruitment domain-containing protein 12;Ice protease-activating factor
Mass (Da): 116159
Number AA: 1024
UniProt ID: Q9NPP4
Locus ID: 58484
COSMIC ID: NLRC4
Gene location on chromosome: 2p22.3
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19535
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.05
Normal role description: NLRC4 is involved in forming an inflammasome complex in response to flagellin. Formation of the complex induces cleavage of caspase-1 to cleave and activate IL-1B. It is also involved in apoptosis induced by p53. Loss of NLRC4 promotes oncogenesis during inflammation by reduced apoptosis rates and increased proliferation of epithelial cell in colitus induced colorectal cancer mice models.
