Normal role description: | FAIM is a Fas kinase antagonist and is involved in inhibiting Fas-mediated apoptosis. Two isoforms of FAIM exist, FAIM-S and FAIM-L with FAIM-S being more widely expressed than FAIM-L. FAIM-L is predominantly expressed in neuronal tissue and appears to have a role in prolonging cell longevity in these tissues. There are no known mutations associated with cancer development. Overexpression of FAIM-L causes cells to resist apoptosis induced by death receptors such as Fas or TNFR1. Thus FAIM may have a role in cancer progression through preventing apoptosis. |
