Normal role description: | GHRL encodes for ghrelin-obestatin preproprotein, which generates ghrelin and obestatin. Ghrelin is a ligand for GHSR and is involved in regulating growth hormone release from the pituitary. It has an appetite-stimulating effect, induces adiposity and stimulates gastric acid secretion. Obestatin is involved in inhibiting thirst and anxiety, improving memory, regulating sleep, affecting cell proliferation, and increasing the secretion of pancreatic juices. It may also have an appetite-reducing effect. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Only 1 ovarian sample was included in Sanger COSMIC |
