Deregulated in translocations: | Translocation t(11;18)(q21;q21) --> BIRC2/3 - MALT1 in marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of MALT-type (50%-53) (9/17). Also translocations with IAP repeat-containing protein 3 (apoptosis inhibitor 2) and immunoglobulin heavy chain locus in MALT lymphomas. |
Normal role description: | MALT1 is responsible for enhancing BCL10-induced activation of NFκB, and thus plays an important role in T-cell antigen receptor-induced integrin adhesion. It also has ubiquitin ligase activity, and is involved in nuclear export of BCL10, and for inducing TRAF6 oligomerization and activation of its ligase activity by binding to it. Translocation of the gene with BIRC2/3 has been implicated in marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of MALT-type. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | 1/45 CNS tumours and 1/145 lung cancer samples were also mutated |
