Normal role description: IKZF3 is a hematopoeitic specific transcription factor which has a role in regulating B-cell development. IKZF3 has a role in the control of Bcl2 expression caused by interleukin receptor signalling to regulate apoptosis. In the absence of mitogen stimulation IKZF3 is localized to the cytoplasm which results in a decrease in Bcl2 expression and activation of apoptosis. IKZF3 has also been found to interact with other transcription factors including H-Ras, FOXP3 as well as histone deacetylases, HDAC1, MTA2 and SIN3A to regulate gene expression. The exact role of IKZFG3 in cancer development is still relatively unknown although its role in promoting apoptosis may classify it as a tumour suppressor protein in B-cells. Silencing events of the IKZF3 locus by DNA methylation has been observed in some cell lines.
