Normal role description: SUFU is a negative regulator of the hedgehog pathway, a cascade implicated in proliferation, and downregulates GLI1-mediated transactivation of target genes by targeting it for degradation. It is also a negative regulator of beta-catenin signalling. Defects in SUFU has been associated with medulloblastoma, a malignant invasive embryonal tumour of the cerebellum.
