Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: CLCA2
Gene Name: CLCA2
Alias: Calcium-activated chloride channel family member 2;Calcium-activated chloride channel protein 3
Mass (Da): 103941
Number AA: 943
UniProt ID: Q9UQC9
Locus ID: 9635
COSMIC ID: CLCA2
Gene location on chromosome: 1p22.3
Cancer protein type: OP/TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: MIXED
Number of cancer specimens: 19689
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.81
Normal role description: CLCA2 modulates Cl- currents across the plasma membrane in a Ca2+-dependent manner. It is involved in basal cell adhesion and stratification of squamous epithelia, and in cell adhesion in the early stages of lung metastasis via its binding to ITGB4. In breast and colorectal cancers however, it may act as a tumour suppressor protein.
