Normal role description: | JAG2 is a ligand for the NOTCH receptor important in embryonic development and terminal cellular differentiation. The JAG2 ligand is synthesized as a transmembrane protein and will bind NOTCH receptors in a cell-cell contact manner. JAG2 overexpression has been implicated in malignant multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma malignancies result in increased IL6 production, a required cytokine to enhance myeloma cell proliferation. IL6 production is dependent on JAG2 mediated cell-cell contact. Thus JAG2 propagates cellular proliferation through increased induction of IL6. |
