Normal role description: | DMTF1 is a transcription factor which activates the ARF-p53 signalling pathway to cause growth arrest or induce apoptosis. DMTF1 is activated in response to Ras-Raf signalling and is regulated by the D-cyclins. DMTF1 thereby acts primarily as a tumour suppressor protein. Loss of heterozygosity for the DMTF1 gene results in the development of lung cancers and leukemias in human and mouse models. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Less than 3% mutation in CNS. |
