Normal role description: | APOBEC2 may be involved in epigenetic regulation via DNA methylation. It was suggested to be a member of the C -> U editing enzyme subfamily of he cytidine deaminase supergene family. However it does not show any detectable apolipoprotein B mRNA editing, but low intrinsic deaminase activity. APOBEC2 expression was shown to be upregulated in response to proinflammatory cytokines in hepatocytes and might facilitate hepatocellular carcinoma. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | No transforming mutations were identified in the Atlas of Gene Oncology, the Sanger COSMIC database, or Uniprot for this gene. |
