Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: SIK3
Gene Name: SIK3
Protein Full Name: Serine/threonine-protein kinase SIK3
Alias: EC 2.7.11.1; FLJ12240; KIAA0999; L19; Salt-inducible kinase 3; Serine/threonine-protein kinase QSK; SIK family kinase 3; SIK3; SIK-3
Mass (Da): 139980
Number AA: 1263
UniProt ID: Q9Y2K2
Locus ID: 23387
COSMIC ID: SIK3
Gene location on chromosome: 11q23.3
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 20494
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.99
Normal role description: SIK3 is a AMPK-family Serine/Threonine-Protein Kinase ubiquitously expressed in the cytoplasm. In ovarian cancer, overexpression of SIK3 promotes G1/S cell cycle progression and cell proliferation and may therefore function as an oncoprotein.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: 1 laryngeal-, 1/114 kidney-, 1/171 lung-, and 3/239 breast cancer samples were also mutated (Sanger COSMIC)
