Normal role description: | DYRK1B is a dual specificity protein serine/threonine and tyrosine kinase. DYRK1B is nuclear localized and is found to enhance transcriptional activity of transcription factors such as TCF1 and FOXO1. DYRK1B is expressed primarily in muscle and testis and is thought to have a role in myoblast differentiation. Increased activity of DYRK1B was observed in rhabdomyosarcoma, colon and pancreatic cancers. Amplification of the DYRK1B gene was observed in 10% of pancreatic cancer cell lines. Overexpression of DYRK1B was found to enhance cell proliferation independent of mitogen stimulation in colon cancers. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Less than 3% mutations in CNS. |
