Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Normal role description: RAD54B is a DNA helicase required for homologous recombination repair of DNA double strand breaks. RAD54B may also be involved in recombination during mitosis and meiosis as it is highly expressed in the testis and spleen. Defects in RAD54B leading to defective recombination may contribute to the development of cancers. Mutations of RAD54B have been identified in lyphoma and colon cancers but their functional effects are not well characterized.
